Shanghai, China, December 10, 2020 – Toshiba Electronic Components and Storage Corporation (“Toshiba”) today announced the launch of two brushed DC motor driver ICs, the “TB9054FTG”, for automotive applications such as electronic throttles and "TB9053FTG". Among them, "TB9054FTG" adopts wettable flank VQFN package, and "TB9053FTG" adopts power QFN package. Samples of the TB9054FTG are available now, and mass production is expected to begin in March 2022; samples of the TB9053FTG will be available from February 2021, with mass production expected to begin in May 2022.
The use of H-bridge motor drives for electronic throttles and various automotive valves is increasing, which stimulates the need for system miniaturization and cost reduction. In addition, the second-generation on-board diagnostic equipment requirements (OBDII) will be implemented in 2022, requiring automotive motor driver ICs to have SPI communication functions.
The new IC introduced today uses a 5A[1] 2-channel output driver to help reduce the placement area. In addition, 10A[1] single-channel drive can also be provided in parallel mode. Both drives can be daisy-chained and also feature the ability to control the motor via SPI communication only. Both methods help reduce MCU ports. The new motor driver adopts a small QFN package with a size of 6.0mm × 6.0mm, and is designed to meet the system miniaturization requirements put forward by the market.
Main features:
? Built-in 2-channel H-bridge driver
The output drive circuit is composed of DMOS FET with low on-resistance, which realizes 5A[1] 2-channel H-bridge drive. It can also provide 10A[1] single-channel drive in parallel mode.
? SPI communication
Both daisy-chaining and motor control using only SPI communication can reduce the number of MCU ports and facilitate system miniaturization.
? Small package

Throttle valves, various engine valves, foldable mirrors and body systems, including in-vehicle applications such as power latches.
